How do stretch marks look?
These marks are like long, glossy streaks usually white or red in color. They are somewhat like tears on your skin, which may be long or short.
The most common causes of Stretch Marks
Stretch marks are not exclusive to women, and both women and men can get these marks on the thighs, buttocks, arms, lower back and abdominal area. One cannot attribute these marks to a particular reason, but some people tend to get it more than others. So, we can say it is sometimes genetic. It has been also observed that people with darker skin tend to get it more.
Young people can get these marks during puberty when the skin cannot expand in similar proportions to body’s growth. Body building may be another cause when muscle growth the stretch the skin too much. Topical or oral corticosteroids have been also found responsible for causing stretch marks.
Stretch Marks after Pregnancy
Stretch marks after pregnancy are particularly common. Nearly three in four women will develop stretch marks on their legs, abdomen, hips, and other areas of the body affected by weight gain during pregnancy.
Most women are found to develop stretch marks during pregnancy due to gain in body weight. The affected area may not be only limited to the abdomen, but may even include breasts, thighs, legs, buttocks, and any other area that may have excess deposition of fat.
Laser treatment for stretch marks is helping many women to get rid of these unwanted scars. It allows them to get their confidence back with healthy, flawless skin and a more youthful appearance.
Even though laser treatment can offer more satisfactory results than is possible with any other type of treatment, but we ensure that our patients have realistic expectations from their chosen treatment. We expect our patients to be in good health to realize the desired results from the treatment. It is important to discuss your medical history with us and clearly mention the medication list before the treatment is started.
Our treatment involves fractional laser that does not burn or cut the affected area, but thin layers of skin are eliminated around the stretch marks. In a process called ablation high-energy ultra-violet laser beams break the molecular bonds that disintegrate the tissue.
The skin exposed to treatment heals quickly and healthy layers of skin grow bereft of stretch marks.
After the treatment is over, patients will find the affected area tender and red due to removal of scarred skin. There can be blisters or other indications that are typical of burn injury, but these don’t last long. The healing in case of majority of patients takes just a few days. Patients who undergo more extensive treatment may require some weeks to recover.
