SkinCare Routine After Menopause- SkinPlus

The skin changes dramatically during menopause. Your body produces less collagen. You lose some fat beneath your skin, and the elasticity of your skin decreases. This, combined with dryness caused by hormonal changes, can result in sagging and fine lines and wrinkles, particularly around the neck, jawline, and cheeks. Crow’s feet and lines above the upper lip are common lines and wrinkles associated with menopause.

Some Useful Tips

Clean Up!

Cleansing is an important step in skin care, especially as you get older. Your skin, in particular, can benefit from extra moisture as you age and your skin becomes drier. The key is to use a cleanser designed for dry skin. So, instead of foam or gel cleansers, which can strip moisture, choose a creamy formula that hydrates.

Hydrate

Because oil glands are less active after menopause, your skin becomes drier. Using a heavier cream, try to provide more moisture to the skin. Instead of taking long, hot showers, apply moisturiser while your skin is still damp. This helps in hydration.

SPF is still required

Even if the amount of sun you got in your 20s, 30s, and 40s caused skin cancer and wrinkling, you still need to protect your skin. Why? Your skin’s natural protection may be less than it was when you were younger. So look for a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher and wear it every day.

Reduce Wrinkled Skin

Wrinkles are caused by too much sun exposure over time, as well as the hormonal changes that come with menopause. As your hormone levels decline with age, it can affect the quality of your skin and worsen wrinkles. When your skin is dry, wrinkles may become more visible, especially as you age. Apply moisturiser to your face, jawline, and neck every day, and look for skin care products that help fight fine lines and sagging and result in a brighter overall appearance.

Hit the Marks

Age spots on the face, hands, and chest may become more visible during menopause. Use sunscreen every day to help prevent them. Already have a spot? Exfoliating products that shed dead skin cells, that can be dull and flaky, can help to fade them. Spots can be faded with skin-lightening products. Toners can also be used to even out skin tone.

Take care of your hands

During menopause, the backs of your hands can lose moisture, collagen, and fat. This can make veins more visible and skin wrinkled. Furthermore, your skin can appear see-through and bony. Use moisturiser on your hands frequently to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Keep the sun off of them. Also, when doing housework or yard work, wear gloves.
